Why is HbA1c Important?

  • Gives a long-term picture of blood sugar control.

  • Helps diagnose diabetes and prediabetes.

  • Assesses how well diabetes treatment is working.

  • Higher HbA1c levels are associated with an increased risk of complications affecting the eyes, kidneys, nerves, and heart.

How Often Should It Be Checked?

  • Every 3 months: If your treatment has changed or your blood sugar is not well controlled.

  • Every 6 months: If your diabetes is stable and well controlled.
